Marjorie Alice Holcomb Walker of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024 at the age of 88. Marjorie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, devoted family member and friend. Born on February 24, 1936 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Arthur Holcomb and Bertie Lee Holcomb. She was married for over 67 years to the late Harry Chandler Walker, Jr. In 1959 they gave birth to their only child, Debbie Walker Durnwald.
Marjorie is survived by Debbie and her husband Mike and their two sons Zachary Alexander Durnwald and Brandon Parker Durnwald. She is also survived by many other caring and loving family members and friends.
Marjorie attended Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, along with Georgia State University and Clayton State University. She retired from her business career in 1993 as a National Sales Coordinator - Gypsum Division with Georgia Pacific at their headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a member of Toastmasters and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a talented artist, writer, book lover, nature lover and Francophile. She also loved the beach and was a devoted philanthropist to the Ocean Conservancy and Manatees, her Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital and other organizations that were close to her heart.
Perhaps the most important thing about Marjorie was her kindness and her love for people. She loved, with all of her heart, her family to which she was deeply devoted, new and old friends and family and even strangers that she had just met. She judged a person only by the content of their heart and never by race, religion, whom a person loved, where they were from and more.
The family will receive friends at 12:30 on Saturday, August 3rd at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. The funeral service will be immediately following the visitation at 1:00 pm. Private interment will be held after the service at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Atlanta.
