Mary Jane Futrell Hearn, age 92, of Roswell, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023.
Mary Jane was a graduate of the Malesus School in Jackson, Tennessee where she was an honor student, captain of the basketball team and homecoming queen. She graduated from Union University with a degree in education and later earned her masters degree at the University of Georgia.
Mary Jane worked as a health and physical education teacher, counselor, and administrator for 40+ years at Milton High School and Roswell High School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional teachers sorority, an organization dedicated to supporting young women pursuing teaching careers. Mary Jane enjoyed traveling, gardening and feeding the birds who visited her yard. She was a patient and caring listener, always helping others. She was a devout Christian and one of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 23. A long-standing member of Crabapple First Baptist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and serving in various other capacities. Mary Jane was a highly respected and loved member of the Alpharetta and Roswell communities. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Hearn Johnson (Bud); grandson, Parker Sutton; parents Charles Franklin Futrell, Sr. "Sambo" and Nannie Louise Newton Futrell; brothers, Charles Franklin Futrell, Jr. "Bud" (Nancy); Billy Futrell (Norma); and Bobby Futrell; and sister, Patricia Futrell Corley Robertson (Larry).
She survived by her son, Eric Hearn (Charlsie); daughter, Mary Lou Sutton (Tim); grandsons, Joshua Johnson (Elizabeth); Jeremiah Johnson (Sarabeth); Ryan Windhearn (Mia); Nelson Hearn (Jessica); great grandchildren Juliet Johnson, Luke Johnson, Elsa Hearn, Evan Hearn; sister, Etta Futrell Barnett (Jimmy); beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 1:00, and the service will follow at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choosing in memory of her.
