Obituary

Mrs. Mary Lou Vickery of Roswell passed away May 13, 2024. A Baptist by faith, Mary Lou was the oldest surviving charter member of Atlanta Street Baptist Church (nee Roswell Second Baptist). Her love for her church and faith in the Lord were evident in all she did. Mary Lou married William (Billy) Vickery in 1950, and together they raised four children. Mary Lou's greatest strength was her trust and love for God despite the trials she endured. As the mother of a medically fragile son, she spent countless hours at hospital bedsides singing hymns, praying, and believing that God would see her family through. Though mightily tested, her faith never wavered. Mary Lou was a talented floral arranger and was often asked to design flowers for weddings, birthdays, and other occasions. She also enjoyed decorating and crafting, and could turn any room into a showplace. One of her favorite ways to spend an afternoon was "rambling" at the Goodwill, and she could always find the best bargains. Mary Lou will also be remembered for her cooking, her green thumb, and incredible love for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Mike) Simmons, Cheryl Hannah, and Cindy Vickery; her grandchildren Michael Simmons, Christy Simmons, and Laura Barido; and her great grand-children Charlsie Hewes, Alexander Barido, and Kohler Flickinger. She was preceded in death by her son, Chris Vickery, and her husband, Billy Vickery. Visitation will be at Northside Chapel in Roswell on May 15, 2024 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and on May 16, 2024 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. The funeral will begin in the funeral home chapel on May 16, 2024 at 2:00pm, officiated by Rev. James Elrod and Pastor Jamie Caldwell. Interment will be at Roswell City Cemetery.
