Michael ("Mickey") Laney Hargett, age 79, of Johns Creek, Georgia passed away on December 21, 2022. Mickey was born on August 28, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late George Laney Hargett and Alma Rozelle Hargett.
After graduating from high school, Mickey joined the Air Force "to see the world". After basic training, ironicly he was assigned to Warner Robins, Georgia. After leaving the Air Force, he travelled all over the United States doing various kinds of work, but then became a carpenter for most of his life.
Mickey was first married to Linda Clark and together they had a daughter, Kimberly Hargett McLaughlin (Mike). Later, Mickey married his present wife of 48 years, Suzie, and together they had a daughter, Amanda Hargett. Mickey is survived by these two daughters and granddaughters, Devany Little and Avery Little. Also surviving are his sister, Tina Hargett Wall, and multiple nieces, nephews, and their children. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Patsy Hargett Budrich.
Mickey lived in the same Atlanta community for the past 37 years and, in his earlier days, came to be known as "the mayor" of the neighborhood for his friendly, humorous, and caring ways. He could be very opinionated, but he loved to joke with people and also share information about neighborhood happenings, long before texting and Face Book. He was also known as someone who could fix almost anything, in traditional or sometimes more "creative" ways. He was also a great fan of professional auto racing and worked weekends for years at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. In more recent years, he adored spending weekends with his granddaughters.
A shelter service for Mickey will be held at 2:00 pm on December 29, 2022 at the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Attendees must arrive NO LATER than 1:45 pm to be able to gain entrance to the appropriate area. Please visit
