Michelle (Shelly) Lynn Hoddeson, age 40, of Johns Creek, GA passed away Friday November 28, 2025. Shelly was born in Houston, Texas, on May 22, 1985, the daughter of Dr. Robert and Kathryn Hoddeson.
Shelly was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith and embraced the belief that God was her higher power and that His son, Jesus Christ, is her savior. She frequently attended mass at St. Brigid Catholic Church. She attended Woodward Academy through grade 6 and then Marist for grades 7-12 graduating in 2003. She was an outstanding soccer player, leading her team to 2 state championships. She also won 2 National Championships with her club team, Gwinnett Soccer Association. She then attended The University of South Carolina on a soccer scholarship for one year, and then transferred to the UGA soccer program. She graduated in 2008, proud to be a Bulldog.
Over the past 13 years, Shelly continued to share her love of the game while coaching at Top Hat Soccer club. Shelly found peace and joy in nature. Her artistic talents are evidenced in the gardens she created while working with Steven Marchese, in the business she created SEC Gardens, and with her current employer Plants Creative Landscapes.
Shelly had a true servant's heart. Her impact on the recovery community reached far and wide. We pay a massive tribute to the people who participate in the Narcotics Anonymous program for the length and quality of her life. We are honored and privileged to call the people who have supported Shelly these many years our friends and family. We will be forever grateful and indebted to you for all your love and support.
Shelly is survived by her parents, Dr. Rob and Kathy Hoddeson, her siblings Dr. Elizabeth (David) Katz, Matthew (Erica) Hoddeson and Carly (Preston) Altman. She loved her nephew Bennett Katz and her nieces Bridget and Blakely Katz. She continued her relationship with her former spouse Angela Gibson and her daughter Naomi Gibson, whom she truly adored. Her family will forever grieve the tremendous loss of Shelly.
There will be a Catholic funeral Mass for Shelly on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic Church (3400 Old Alabama Rd., Johns Creek, GA 30022). All are welcome to attend, regardless of denomination. A reception will follow the Mass at the church.
In addition, a smaller gathering for the praying of the Rosary will take place in the chapel at 10 a.m., and all are welcome to join.
