Ms. Nellie Taylor, age 91, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away Friday, April 28, 2023. Nellie was born on September 28, 1931 in Faber, Virginia, the daughter to the late Roosevelt and Bertha Beverly.
Nellie resided in Staunton, Virginia where she raised her two children, Cynthia Taylor Purpura and Rick Taylor. She was a hard-working single mom who still managed to cook Southern food from scratch for every meal. Baking was her specialty, with cakes being a favorite item of the family.
Nellie moved to Alpharetta in the early 1990s when she became a grandmother to Kelsea and Christopher Purpura. She loved spending time with her family and taught them about gardening, cooking, and scavenging for pecans from the tree in her backyard.
Nellie touched many lives by helping others take care of their children and their homes. She was nicknamed the "Mayor of Milton Avenue" because of her vast network of friends and knowledge of the neighborhood. She took it upon herself to help the elderly around her when needed and to be a friend.
In addition to helping others, Nellie enjoyed nature and loved planting flowers and leaving treats out for the birds in her yard. She also had a tradition of hosting family and friends every Fourth of July to watch the nearby park's fireworks from her front yard.
Along with her parents, Nellie is preceded in death by three of her siblings. She is survived by her three sisters; two children: daughter, Cynthia Taylor Purpura, of Milton, Georgia and son, Rick Taylor, of Fries, Virginia; their spouses, Michael Purpura and Cynthia Taylor, respectively. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Kelsea Purpura Scibelli and Christopher Purpura.
