Peggy Wilson DeVore, 83, of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior on May 1, 2025. She was born June 17, 1941, in Lithonia, Georgia, the youngest of eight children to the late Benjamin and Clara Bell Wilson.
Peggy and her husband, James Donald DeVore, raised their three daughters in Alpharetta, where they were longtime residents. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. She married James Donald DeVore in 1963, and they enjoyed 44 wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. Peggy had a successful career as a Realtor in the Alpharetta area for over 40 years, retiring in 2019. She formed lasting friendships with many of her clients and colleagues.
Peggy had peace in her heart knowing Jesus as her Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Alpharetta. She attended services until she could no longer go in person, and afterward, she made sure to watch the sermons online each Sunday. One of her most cherished experiences was being part of the Touch of Love Ministry at her church. The members of this ministry brought her comfort with thoughtful care packages, handwritten notes from the children's ministry, and prayers, which she greatly looked forward to. Peggy also loved singing in the church's senior choir, where she found joy and fellowship through music.
Her favorite Bible verse was John 14:1–3, which gave her peace in knowing that God had prepared a place for her to be with Him forever.
Peggy loved spending time with her family, especially at the beach, during family game nights, and on trips to Cherokee, NC, where she enjoyed playing games and making memories. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, and she could often be heard cheering, "How about dem Dogs?" or "How about dem Braves?" Her family and friends will fondly remember her support of their activities, from sporting events to musical performances, and her deep love for her children and grandchildren.
Peggy was known for her cooking, especially her cornbread, biscuits, and homemade vegetable soup. She was consistently able to put three meals on the table while working full-time and raising three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald DeVore; parents, Benjamin and Clara Bell Wilson; brothers, Benjamin Jr., Harold, and James Addison "Red" Wilson; sisters, Margaret Wilson England, Clara Mae Wilson Moore, and Polly Wilson Tailor; and her beloved grand-dog, Phoebe.
She is survived by her daughters, Tara DeVore Berry (Wesley), Tena DeVore Daniel (Jeff), and Tammy DeVore Albright (Alan); her grandchildren, Addison Albright (Courtney), Braden Albright, Madelynn Daniel (Ricky), and Morgan Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Asher and Eloise Albright. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Wilson (Shirley), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Capstone Hospice and to her numerous caregivers, especially Cindy Sheehan and Maureen Hatcher.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Rd., Roswell, GA. 30075. The family will receive friends from 12:00–1:30 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Touch of Love Ministry of First Baptist Church of Alpharetta (44 Academy St, Alpharetta, GA 30009), in memory of Peggy DeVore.
