Obituary

On the morning of July 19, 2023 Peggy Elizabeth Barnett Major of Alpharetta transcended the challenges of her earthly life and went to her reward with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Peggy is survived by her daughter Sally and son-in-law Art Nicewander of Molena, her son John and daughter-in-law Alison Major of Canton. She is also survived by her granddaughters: Elizabeth Zervakos and her husband Sakis Spiliopoulos and their daughter Victoria of Atlanta, Rachel Zervakos and her husband Luke Reid-Grassia of Sante Fe, NM, and Danielle Zervakos of Molena. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dr. E. Frank Major and her parents Jasper Calvin and Ruby Wynelle (Reid) Barnett.

Miss Peggy was a tireless force for good and God in the lives of countless family, friends, and students. She was born and raised in Crabapple (now Milton, GA) in North Fulton County. She was a 1959 graduate of Milton High School and a 1964 graduate of Georgia State University. She was a teacher in Oldham County, KY; Chatham County, GA; and for over 20 years at Roswell High School in Fulton County, GA. Peggy was also the "Preacher's wife" in Pooler, GA for 13 years where Brother Frank was the pastor at Pooler First Baptist Church. The years in Pooler were central to her identity. She blossomed as a care-giver for her husband's congregation and forged timeless friendships with numerous church members and neighbors. Peggy's was also a tireless "Preacher's wife" TWICE at Clear Springs Baptist in Alpharetta where she remained a member until her passing. Childhood and life-long friendships were forged and nurtured at Clear Springs.

While she achieved many things in her life, Peggy most prized the personal relationships she forged with her immediate and extended family, friends, co-workers, and students. Her work as a teacher and as the wife of a Baptist Minister afforded her the opportunity to minister to so many and she took full advantage.

Peggy's legacy as a teacher is carried on by her daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and two of her granddaughters. Through her and her family, thousands of young people have been, and will continue to be, impacted by her mission.
