Robert Alexander (Alex) Brown passed away at home on October 19, 2024. Alex grew up in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, where the family had a large farm. Alex left Cotton Plant, starting his sophomore year, enrolling at Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee. After graduation, he enrolled at Georgia Tech, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Alex graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After Tech, he served his country in the Army before returning to Atlanta to earn his MBA at Emory. During this time, he met his future wife, Sara. They married on September 1, 1962.
Alex's professional journey was marked by dedication and innovation. He worked for the Coca-Cola company for over 25 years, beginning in the fountain department, moving to Engineering, and finishing his career in International. He blended his technical understanding with his business acumen and helped develop the Bag in the Box syrup container into a viable market-ready product. The conversion of fountain systems from a two-way five-gallon stainless steel container to a one-way Bag in the Box container was highly profitable for the company and the bottler system.
Alex was not just a dedicated professional but also a committed community member. He dedicated a lifetime of service to the churches he attended. In Arkansas, Alex was clerk of session. He continued his service in Roswell, serving the Roswell Presbyterian Church as an elder, training Stephen Ministers, and helping with the offering for the church office. His selfless contributions to the community are deeply appreciated and will be remembered fondly.
Alex's love and care extended beyond his professional and community life to his family. He is survived by Sara, his wife of 62 years; his children Emily (Dan) Lynch of Decatur and Robert Brown Jr. (Amy) of Johns Creek; and his five grandchildren Meredith (Carson) Cross, Ian Lynch, Hayden Brown, Mary Parker Lynch, and Patrick Lynch. His family was his pride and joy; his legacy lives on through them.
Instead of flowers, contributions can be made to the Roswell Presbyterian Church, PO Box 988, Roswell, GA 30077-0988, or the Alzheimer Association, 41 Perimeter Circle E, Dunwoody, GA 30346.
