Obituary

Robert Alan Hamilton, lovingly known as Bob to all who knew him, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on December 10, 2024. Born on May 7, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Glenn Louis Hamilton and Elizabeth Westhoff Hamilton, Bob lived a life marked by love, faith, and dedication.
Bob grew up with a strong sense of purpose and went on to attend prep school at Mercersburg Academy. He earned a football scholarship to Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he studied from 1949 to 1953. Bob's time at Catawba was deeply cherished, and he recounted wonderful stories from those years throughout his life.
After college, Bob served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Upon completing his military service, he began his professional career with Royal Typewriter Co. from 1956 to 1957. He then transitioned into the steel industry, first working National Supply, then for Armco, before becoming an independent manufacturers' representative.
In 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Elizabeth Russell, in Pittsburgh. Known affectionately as Bethie, she and Bob built a beautiful life together. The couple moved to Roswell, Georgia, in 1974, where they quickly became beloved members of the community. Beth and Bob were long-time members of the CUC Sunday School Class at Roswell United Methodist Church, and their extraordinary love for one another was evident to all who knew them.
Bob retired in 2008 and embraced his lifelong passion for art, spending countless hours in the studio refining his skills. He continued painting until just a few weeks before his passing. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Bob had many other interests. He was an avid golfer, a devoted fan of the Braves, and a lover of football. Most importantly, he had an unwavering faith in God, which he strived to impart to his family.
Bob's kind, caring, and generous spirit made him a role model for his family and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his three beloved daughters: Amy Dodson (Lee), Anne McVeety, and Margaret (Meg) McDaniel (Chip). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Robert (Bobby) Clarkson (Morgan), David Clarkson, Brandt Hamilton McVeety, Elizabeth (Ellie) McVeety, Hamilton McDaniel, Tripp McDaniel, and Robert Alan (Bo) McDaniel. Bob was further blessed with a great-grandchild, Tucker Baine Clarkson, age two, who affectionately referred to him as "AhBob" during their treasured FaceTime calls.
Bob will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, who find solace in the knowledge that he is now with Jesus, reunited with those he loved dearly and waiting to welcome his loved ones once more. His legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The celebration of life will be held at the Roswell United Methodist Church Chapel on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a reception at the clubhouse of the Orchards at Crabapple, 4499 Orchard Trace, Roswell, GA 30076.
