Obituary

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Robert "Bob" Shannon, aged 87, a native of Yonkers, NY who spent much of his life as a beloved resident of Basking Ridge, NJ, and later, Alpharetta, GA. Bob, a father, grandfather, and cherished friend to many, peacefully passed away on March 15, 2024, in Cumming, GA surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Bob leaves behind a legacy of generosity, a profound love for his family, an enduring passion for all things Boston College (where he proudly graduated as captain of the baseball team in the class of '58), and a distinguished record of military service with the United States Marine Corps. Following a remarkable 30-year career, Bob retired as an Executive Vice President and Managing Executive at Sedgewick James (Marsh McLennan).
A devoted father, Bob is survived by his children: Kathy and her husband Don Davis of Marietta, GA, Kevin and his wife Jamie of St. Louis, MO, John and his wife Michele of Solon, OH, David of Duluth, GA, and Robert and his wife Julia of Long Valley, NJ. He was a cherished "Pop" to his 14 grandchildren, Drew and his wife Barbara, Lindsay, Matthew, Lauren, John, Molly and her husband Jake Ferencak, Michael, Robert and his fiancée Kelly, Jack, Joe, Owen, Mark, Quinn, and Keenan. Bob also leaves behind his special friend Nancy Vaughn, brother-in-law Jim McCarthy and his wife Priscilla, and countless other beloved friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Terrence and Clara, his brother Jack and his wife Bette, and his sister-in-law Pat and her husband Brian O'Brien.
The Rite of Committal service will be held for family and relatives on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, 145 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ, followed by a celebration of Bob's life luncheon for all family, relatives and friends at 1:00 pm at the Marriott Delta Hotel, 80 Allen Road, Basking Ridge, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that held special significance to Bob.
Bob Shannon will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, integrity, and unwavering love. May he rest in peace.
