Bob Sutton, loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born in Washington, Georgia, the youngest of five children.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Brooks Sutton, wife Sally Norton Sutton and daughter Laura Sutton Barlett. He is survived by his daughter Susan Sutton Baughman, grandsons Michael Baughman (Ashley), Patrick Baughman, Robert Barlett, and stepchildren Melissa Meyerhofer and Robert Allen.
Bob served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed at the Embassy in Taiwan for 26 months. He was one of eight Americans inside the embassy when it was attacked by a mob of an estimated 10,000. He was injured during the attack but was able to protect two women who worked at the embassy and get them to safety.
After his time in the military, Bob married Clara Brooks. He worked fulltime and went to college at night to support his young family. He graduated from Georgia State with a business degree and began his career at Sherwin-Williams. He was in sales management for 30+ years before he retired.
After retirement from the business world, Bob volunteered with Continental Airlines at the airport and worked part-time for Home Depot. He then served as Church Administrator, Elder and Board Member at Mt Carmel Christian Church.
Bob was kind, thoughtful, engaging, loved others before himself, had a servant heart, was a leader both in business, church and family. He lived his life in a way that pointed to Jesus. His faith was deep and evident in every aspect of his life.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. He loved music, reading and was an avid Braves fan. Spending time with his family brought him the most joy.
Above all, Bob became a Christian at a young age and loved Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was assured that he had an eternal home waiting for him in heaven.
The family will receive friends at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 10, with a Celebration of Life service following at 2:00pm at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA 30075. The family will have a private interment service at a later date.
