Robert "Rob" Garwood Thompson of Roswell, Georgia passed away peacefully in his home on April 21, 2024. Rob was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 4, 1946, to Thomas and June Thompson. Rob moved to Georgia and that is where he met his wife Dolores Black Thompson. They were married for 58 years. Rob served in the United States Navy. He then went on to work at Bell South for many years. Once retired, he drove a school bus for the Fulton County School System. He was also a shade tree mechanic and serviced many friends, family, and customers at the iconic "Rob's Pit Stop."
Rob is preceded in death by his mother and father, Thomas and June Thompson, his brother Mike Thompson, and his brother-in-law Chuck Stoudt. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, and their two sons, Brad Thompson and wife Patti Thompson of Cumming Georgia and Steve Thompson and wife Greer Thompson, daughters Natalie and Sarah Thompson of Ball Ground Georgia. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sally Law and Suzanne Stoudt. As well as many other special family members and friends.
Rob loved God, his country, and his family.
He was beloved by all especially his two granddaughters, Natalie, and Sarah.
Some fond memories that his beloved granddaughters wanted to share:
They loved when he took them to his work and they got to see all the school buses, watching movies, listening to ABBA, him telling stories while they sat on the porch, going to the Roswell Park, making Mickey Mouse pancakes, swimming, bonfires, playing kings in the corner during the summertime, going on a road trip together to Pennsylvania to see his extended family.
Rob will be laid to rest with military honors at Georgia National Cemetery on May 24th at 3pm. A reception will follow at 2183 Henry Scott Road Ball Ground, Georgia 30107.
