Samuel Lewis Harrington, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025. He was born on July 20, 1935, in Columbus, Indiana, to Samuel Kiser Harrington and Margaret Louise Harrington. He was known as Jay by his sister Priscilla and brothers David and Eric.
His career spanned the Brass and Copper, Architectural Aluminum, and Decorative Glass industries, including time with Anaconda American Brass Co., Amarlite, Gammans Industries, and Jennifer's Glass.
Sam had many hobbies, including golf, tennis, officiating, and painting. His cartoon sketches were among his most memorable work, with one often featured in birthday and Christmas cards. He especially enjoyed painting alongside his granddaughter Sydney, who shares his artistic spirit.
Some of his fondest memories revolved around sports. He played football and baseball at Climax High School, Michigan State University, and Kalamazoo College. He loved retelling stories of his time as a prankster—like the time he turned the tables on his fraternity brothers who planned to leave him behind on a road trip, only to find themselves stranded instead. He also enjoyed recounting his two holes-in-one on the golf course—just a few among the many colorful stories he loved to share.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Harrington; his sister, Priscilla Harrington Reynolds; his children, Karen Harrington Wilson (Dewey), Paula Harrington, and Bart Harrington (Brenna); and his stepdaughter, Thursday Daniel. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Kelly Youngblood (Will), Shawn DeRome (Kevin), Sydney and Shelby Daniel; as well as his beloved great-grandchildren, Jackson and Avery Youngblood, Mary Elisabeth DeRome, and a baby boy DeRome expected in October 2025.
