Mr. Stewart James Showalter, age 72, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Tuesday,
August 20, 2024. Stewart was born August 2, 1952 in Van Wert, Ohio, the son to
the late James and Joan Showalter. He has resided in the metro Atlanta area for 30
years.
Stewart spent his childhood in Van Wert, Ohio playing sports and excelling in
school. After his graduation in 1970, he went on to play football as the
quarterback for Miami of Ohio where he also belonged to the Phi Tau fraternity.
During his time in college he met the love of his life, Diane. They were married in
1974. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Jeff, Katie and Kristin.
Stewart and Diane had no limits to their love for one another and shared many
adventures and milestones over the course of their 50 years of marriage.
An avid outdoorsman, he created wonderful memories for his family while boating
and spending summers at the lake. He taught his children to water-ski and cherish
time in the outdoors.
Stewart had a degree in Business Management which led him to becoming a top
problem solver to those who knew him. You could always find him making repairs
and improvements. Stewart led a 38 year career with IBM and contributed greatly
to his team's growth.
Later in life, he fostered his love for travel. Exploring Europe and the Western
United States with his wife and friends, he developed an interest in photography
and enjoyed capturing the beauty in nature.
Above all, his love of God guided him throughout the course of his life. He was
highly disciplined, loyal, and the rock of his family. His influence will forever
remain in the lives of all who knew him.
Stewart is preceded in death by his parents, James and Joan Showalter. He is
survived by his wife, Diane Showalter and three loving children: son, Jeff
Showalter (Lisa), of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Katie Ryan (Matt), of Atlanta,
Georgia and Kristin Lambert (Jonathan), of Atlanta, Georgia; 12 grandchildren and
many friends.
A funeral Mass to honor the life of Stewart Showalter will take place at ten thirty
in the morning on Friday August 23, 2024 at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church at
11330 Woodstock Rd, Roswell, Georgia. The burial will take place at two thirty in
the afternoon at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in the St. John Vianney
Section.
