Obituary

Mr. Takao Inui, age 89, of Norcross, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Takao was born on January 20, 1937 in Kamakura, JAPAN, the third of six children to the late Teruo and Chiyo Inui.

Takao grew up on the premises of the Jouchiji-Temple, one of the Five Mountains of Kamakura (Kamakura Gozan) considered to be one of the most respected Zen temples in all of Japan. His reverence for nature and serenity stemmed from his strict upbringing in Kita-Kamakura. His father was a linguist and Professor of English at the Meiji University who published many books including a dictionary for four languages, English, German, French, and Russian. His mother came from an established family, and was an artist in multiple genres spanning from Kamakura-bori to haiku. Takao attended the Onari Elementary and Middle Schools before entering the renowned Shonan High School. He went on to major in Spanish at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies since Spanish was the one language his father had not written a dictionary for.

Takao met the love of his life in Tokyo, and married Rakuko in 1963. He started working for Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Corporation) and relocated to Osaka. His original region of specialty was Latin/South America and the Caribbean due to his Spanish skills. Throughout his life, he had a special affinity for the Spanish speaking people and their culture. They were blessed with three children, Takahide, Rima, and Reina.

Takao traveled all over the world for business including Latin/South America, Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, India, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. He was responsible for selling and bringing service to the first TV sets in China. He also worked out a prosperous import/export deal for Taiwan and Jamaica so they may be able to purchase electronics from Japan; a successful win-win situation for everyone.

After surviving a fatal car crash in Kochi, India, he was finally sent to the US as an expat. He became the Panasonic General Manager for the Southern Region (US). His family joined him a year later in Atlanta, and he was endearingly called Tak by his American friends. During his tenure in the US, Takao worked and lived all over the country in New Jersey, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. He was rarely home, always on a business trip somewhere but when he was home he finally had time to share with his family, which was unheard of in Japan.

Takao deeply loved his home and garden in Atlanta. An avid reader, he was fascinated by history especially the Civil War and the Native Americans. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, traveling, mahjong, MLB, Wrestlemania, Abarenbo Shogun, Cinco de Mayo, and sudoku. He loved to dress well at home even in retirement. He remained sharp in wit and in posture until his last day.

Takao is survived by his loving wife of more than 62 years, two younger sisters, three children, and four grandchildren.
