Terry "Don" Mathis

With a deep faith that guided his life, Don led his family with love and devotion. A true Renaissance man, he had a multitude of interests that enriched his life and those around him.
His primary interest was his family. Don cherished his wife, Jamey. They were married 56 years. He adored his daughters; his family was his greatest joy.
A talented musician, Don played a variety of instruments. His favorite were the bagpipes, and the saxophone. He was an accomplished calligrapher, painter, and photographer. Don had a passion for vintage British automobiles. He enjoyed teaching his children, grandsons, and even tutoring others. Don enjoyed tennis, racquetball, and croquet. From building electronics and lasers to working on his British cars, constructing forts and dollhouses, Don could fix anything.
Born and raised in Miami, Oklahoma, Don attended Miami High School and participated in Oklahoma Boys State. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He earned his PhD at the University of Houston in Underwater Acoustics. He was granted a Post Doctoral Fellowship at University of Birmingham in Birmingham, England. Don's career allowed him to share his genius at NASA, Koss, Bell Labs, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies. Over the years he received over 15 patents for various fiber optic and connector designs. Ever the eternal student, Don never ceased learning.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Jamey Mathis, and his daughters, Lindsey Mathis Hene (husband - Doug Hene, sons - Marshall and Mathis) and Stacy Mathis Jackson (husband - David Jackson, sons - Jax and Whitaker). He and his family attend Stonecreek Church in Milton, GA
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 27th, 2024, at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA.
