MATONEY – The Honorable Judge James W. Matoney passed peacefully at home in the early morning hours of December 19, 2015 surrounded by his family. Judge Jim, as he was affectionately known in the community, was loved for his good nature and highly respected for his sense of fairness over his 20+ years of service to the citizens of Alpharetta. He was preceded in death by his son, David Matoney. Judge Jim is survived by his loving wife Lois of 63 years, daughter; Susan (Robert) Lomenick, son; Dennis (Beverly) Matoney and grandchildren , Michael and Allison.
Jim received his engineering degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1952. After a 36 year career at Shell Oil, he retired and went on to get his law degree from Mercer University. He served on the Alpharetta City Council before becoming a municipal court judge in Alpharetta.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 1:00pm at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors at the church immediately following the service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Building Fund at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, 69 N. Main Street, Alpharetta, GA. 30009.
