Tom, a man of brilliant intellect, boundless compassion, and unwavering loyalty, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, after a long and courageous fight with Parkinson's. He was born March 24, 1939, in Madras, India, the son of the late Thomas and Marie Scott Patterson. Tom is survived by his wife Margarita; sons Michael Patterson and Robert (Jodi) Patterson; grandchildren Ryan and Braden Patterson; sisters Pearl Bysaeth and Marie Callow; and loving nieces and nephews. His parents and sisters, Heather Kirkness and Jean Buckley, preceded him in death.
His journey took him across the world—from being cherished in India, England, and Spain, where he met his wife, to spending the last 45 years in the United States, where he became a beloved member of every community he touched. Thomas Patterson leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. His wit, wisdom, and compassion were not just qualities but forces that brightened the lives of those who were lucky enough to know him. His loyalty and generosity were unmatched, and he had a way of making everyone feel valued and cherished, no matter the distance or time that separated them.
A creative and artistic soul, Tom was an accomplished author and photographer with a zest for capturing the natural world around him. His work reflected his deep understanding and appreciation of life's beauty, and his creative vision continues to inspire those who experienced it. Additionally, he was an avid tennis fan, a sport he played and followed passionately throughout his life.
He traveled through life with a worldly perspective, embracing different cultures and experiences with an open heart. His love for adventure and knowledge fueled his incredible curiosity and zest for life.
He will be deeply missed by his family, countless friends, and all fortunate enough to share in his extraordinary life. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held on November 2, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell. We will gather to honor the memory of a remarkable man who made the world a better place with his presence.
