Thomas Wilburn Young, Jr., 78, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on October 8, 2026. Born on December 10, 1947, in Macon, Mississippi, Tom lived a life marked by faith, service, devotion to family, and a commitment to helping others.

Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage, honor, and dedication to his country. Following his military service, he built a successful career in technology as a computer programmer with IBM and later operated his own consulting business. He concluded his professional career with the Internal Revenue Service before retiring.

A faithful member of North River Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia, Tom devoted countless hours to serving his church family. He enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in Sunday School, serving as church treasurer for a season, and was ordained as a deacon. He was also actively involved in the youth ministry while his daughters were in middle school and high school, investing in the lives of young people with the same care and encouragement he showed to everyone he met.

More than any title or accomplishment, Tom will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud great-grandfather, and faithful friend. His kindness, integrity, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith in Christ touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy for his family and all who knew him.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Anne Young, and his parents, Thomas and Arthurleen Young.

He is survived by his daughters, Krista Downing (Matt) of Acworth, Georgia; Melissa Nelson (Tim) of Acworth, Georgia; and April Young of Canton, Georgia; his sister, Kay Young of Gulfport, Mississippi; his grandchildren, CJ Black (Abby), Alexis Downing, Jordan Downing, Hayla Coleman, Wesley Mears, Trenton Schoen, and Kaytee Mears; and his great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Black and Daisy Black.

Funeral Service

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at North River Baptist Church, 12090 Hardscrabble Road, Roswell, Georgia.

Visitation

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia.

An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at North River Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

Burial

A burial with military honors will take place at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia immediately following the funeral service.
