Wilson Huxley Coulter, born on January 10, 1936 to Ida Mae Huxley and Robert Wilson Coulter in San Jose, CA, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023 after a 15-year battle with Dementia. His father was a Nazarene minister, whose pastorates took them to San Jose and Fresno, CA, Salem and Portland, OR, Winnipeg, MN and Toronto, Canada. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Doreen; and twin sister, Wilma.
He attended numerous elementary schools and high schools wherever the family moved and graduated from the University of Toronto with a BAS in 1962 and a MSA in 1963.
Wilson met his wife of 60 years, Elaine, at Avenue Road Church in Toronto where they were married. The couple moved to Michigan State University and completed a PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry in 1968.
In 1969, Wilson began a teaching and research career at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB, Canada. Yearning to become a physician, he applied and was accepted to Memorial University of Newfoundland at the age of 38 and moved his family to achieve this dream in 1978. He practiced Family Practice Medicine following certification in Canada and the USA in Roanoke, VA and Phoenix, AZ for 28 years. Wilson had a passion for classical music, literature, good food and wine. His favorite hymn was Holy, Holy, Holy and he loved Virgil Fox's organ rendition of "Come Sweet Death." He enjoyed nature and traveled extensively by car and cruising with his wife.
In 2015, Wilson and Elaine relocated to the Orchards of Sweet Apple in Alpharetta, GA to be closer to family. For the last 15 years of his life, he suffered from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and was tenderly cared for in his home by Elaine.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters, Kerry Carter (Michael) and Darlaine Ward (Andrew); son, Don Coulter, MD (Loralee); grandchildren, Alexis and Patrick Carter, Adam and Kendall Ward, Mason and Emerson Coulter.
