Our History

Our History

Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory was founded in 1995 in the community of Crabapple (located midway between Alpharetta and Roswell in North Fulton County). Our firm was founded by Rex T. Grizzle and Randy N. Norred, both longstanding members of the Alpharetta-Roswell Communities. Now owned and operated by Rex T. Grizzle and his daughter Lucinda Degenhard, both are licensed Funeral Directors in the State of Georgia and represent combined experience of over 55 years serving families in North Metro Atlanta.

Rex has spent his entire funeral service career serving families in the North Metro Atlanta area. Formerly associated with both the Roswell and Louie E. Jones Funeral Homes, he is a graduate of Kennesaw State College (B.B.A.) and John A. Gupton College (Mortuary Science). He served with the Memorial Division of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Rex and his wife Olivia live in Alpharetta and they have two daughters. Rex is a member of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church and Alpharetta Masonic Lodge #235 F&A.M. and the Alpharetta Rotary Club. He represents the firm in the Selected Independent Funeral Homes organization. Rex has passed on his commitment to family and community to his daughter, Lucinda, who is also a licensed funeral director / embalmer and is active in the community as she continues to raise her children here today.  Families serving families, it’s not our motto, it’s our way of life.

Lucinda is following in her father’s footsteps in funeral service feeling the importance to serve the Alpharetta and Roswell communities and has been doing so since 2005. She is a graduate of Reinhardt University and John A. Gupton College.  Lucinda and her husband John live in Alpharetta and have two children, all of whom are members of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church.

Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory is founded upon a tradition of service. We pride ourselves in the support and commitment we have extended to families throughout the metro-Atlanta area and welcome your questions and concerns at any time. We invite you to participate in a relationship we believe to be sacred and confidential and hope to assist you in any way possible. Our Chapel and Funeral Home provide a beautiful atmosphere that honors all families and their wishes and offers handicapped access, ample parking, spacious staterooms, and a newly renovated area for making arrangements and selections. In addition, in October of 2004 we opened our own crematory. This state of the art facility has a family viewing area and is the only crematory located on a funeral home premise in Fulton County. Our courteous and professional staff is available to serve 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.
