Duane Allan Peter Howard

After a brief illness, Duane Allan Peter Howard was shepherded to a life much greater and more beautiful than that on earth. Duane was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, on December 17, 1958 and resided for the first eight year of his life in Onaping, Ontario at which point his family relocated to Burlington, Ontario. Of primary interest as an adolescent was the Boy Scout movement, which permitted Duane the opportunity to hike and camp on or near the Bruce Trail almost every weekend. Upon graduation from Nelson High School, Duane attended McMaster University where he graduated in 1981 with a B.Sc (Biology Major) whilst subsequently completing a one-year term as Biology Club President and representative on the Biology Undergraduate Curriculum. Duane then pursued graduate studies at McMaster University, completing his M.Sc (Biology) in 1985, and having the fortunate opportunity to meet his future wife- Jane Young. Of utmost importance to Duane was to be able to pursue a career that could reward society the benefits harvested by the sciences, specifically application of molecular biology, and therefore he gained employment in the Pharmaceutical industry. Duane held progressive sales/marketing positions throughout Canada with Upjohn, Schering Plough, Amersham, Adria/ Pharmacia/ Pharmacia and Upjohn, and NeXstar Pharmaceuticals. To gain some international marketing experience, Duane relocated his family to Atlanta, GA in 1999 for a marketing position with UCB, Inc. remaining with them until the presentation of his illness. Duane is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jane; and his two beautiful daughters Jennifer and Ashley, who were both passionate about Irish Dancing. He will be remembered forever by his parents, Ross and Jeannette Howard (Burlington) and brothers, their wives and children which include Dean Howard (children Megan and Allison), Darrell and Christine Howard (the latter who sadly passed away January 2003-children Ryan and Stephanie), Robert Howard, and Ross and Bruna Howard. All, except the latter two parties, which live in Stoney Creek and Mississauga respectively, live in Burlington. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive Duane including Calvin Boyer who provided accommodations and moral support during undergraduate studies. One could not have had a better set of in-laws! This included a loving and supporting father and mother in-law Peter and Gillian Young (St. Davids). Duane enjoyed visiting his brothers-in-law, their wives, and children which included Mark & Debbie Young (children Sarah and Jamie-Meaford) and Ian & Ann Young (children Brittany and Peter - Innisfil). This was in light of the idle threat made at the wedding 20 years ago (September 26, 1987) to keep their sister happy - something I tried to live up to daily! A memorial service will occur on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 1770 Johnson Ferry Rd NE Marietta, GA. at 11:00 AM. A one hour remembrance and observance will take place prior to the memorial service. Full funeral services will be conducted at a later date in Burlington, Ontario, CANADA.
