Grace A. Giddarie

Grace Agatha Curlin was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 8th 1932, to Ms. Catherine Crosse and Mr. Alvin Curling. The youngest of three sisters and one brother, Grace left Jamaica in 1960 after being beckoned to London, by Mr. Everald Giddarie her childhood friend and teenage sweetheart. Several months after her arrival in London she was married, and the couple spent the next several years in the United Kingdom. Sometime during the late 1960’s they decided to move back to Jamaica, purchased land and property, and began the challenging task of giving birth to, and raising their only child, a very hyperactive and mischievous little boy named Mark Anthony Giddarie. In later years and after serious contemplation, the family would relocate once more to the United States, where Grace would attend college and work in several different capacities from nursing, to the financial services industry. She eventually retired in the early nineties, and moved from New York to Ft. Lauderdale. In her retirement Grace remained very active traveling, attending church, and working part-time as a childcare giver at the local YMCA. For those that knew Grace, she was a very special person, private in nature, who touched many with her gentle, kind ways and her gift of song. Her family, the church, children, and the general well being of those she came in contact with, were things that Grace was the most passionate about. For all that met my beloved Mother she always left a lasting impression. Grace’s spiritual and religious conviction was the driving force and the core of who she was as a person. In a letter dated to me (her son) in Jun 07- Grace wrote, ” Always lean on God. Be patient always.” A celebration of this great life would be also be a celebration of love and a bestowment of honor to my Father, Mr. Everald Giddarie, who has unconditionally for 52 years loved, cherished, and taken care of his beloved wife and family. It is our families wish that in the future that as an act of celebration of Grace’s life that you please consider your charitable donations be directed towards cancer related research. In Grace’s own words: “Life must go on”…”This too my son shall pass”.
