Ivy B. Johnson, III

Ivy B. Johnson III, 55, of Canton, Georgia went home to be with his Heavenly Father on 20 January 2013. Ivy was a lifetime resident of metro-Atlanta and an entrepreneur by profession. He was a life-long member of Mt. Paran Church of God and attended World Harvest Church in Roswell. As energetic, enthusiastic and motivating as he was, he will be remembered most for the boundless energy he brought to any gathering. His was the voice of reason. He learned at his father’s and grandfather’s knees to guide by example. Prayers of gratitude were spoken over every meal without fail. Ivy always demonstrated a loving generous spirit. Ivy’s business success was due to his belief in what he was doing as he only represented products that he felt were making a difference in the lives of others. Ivy loved cars, especially his red Supra. He told once that he had owned over 19 cars in his lifetime, and he related details of each one…the color and every detail about it. But the Supra, his friend Larry and his Supra buddies were special to Ivy. The stories concerning Ivy driving that Supra are plentiful. No doubt Ivy will be most remembered for his faith in God, which saw him through many trials and tribulations. Ivy knew how to pray, much like whispering directly into God’s ear, because his prayers were answered. He claimed it and thanked the Lord for it. His wife said it best when she wrote, “Ivy's powerful, never wavering, love of the Lord assures all who knew him of his presence in the Heavens today.” Ivy was quick and stealth and could catch flies or chipmunks by hand. He adored his grandchildren and often entertained them with magic tricks before smothering them with kisses. He is preceded in death by his father, Ivy B. Johnson, Jr. and sons: Andrew Lee Johnson and William Andrew Johnson. Ivy is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gayle Lee-Johnson, sons Ivy B. Johnson IV and Michael Lee Johnson as well as daughter Jennifer and her husband, James Love, six precious grandchildren: Megan, Logan, Abigail, Gabriel, Emily and Bailey and his extremely devoted dog, Sassy. Ivy is also survived by his mother, Norma Watson-Johnson, brothers and sisters-in-law: Marty and Libby, Stacy and Lindsey, Kevin and April Johnson, as well as sisters-in-law: Sue Lee-Berry and Lois & Deaurd Powell and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors. Ivy's Homecoming Celebration will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at World Harvest Church, 320 Hardscrabble Road, Roswell, Georgia.
