Mrs. Ada Ovadeen Jeffery

Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, and having lived a full life, Ada Ovadeen Jeffery passed away on December 14, 2016 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, in MIlton, Georgia. She was 95 years young. Mrs. Jeffery was a twin daughter born on July 14, 1921 to Mr. Ira Wheeler of Gainesville, GA and Mrs. Ada Blalock of Rabun County, GA. Later the family moved to Coalgate, Oklahoma. Having died giving birth to twin daughters the twins were separated with Ovadeen being adopted into the family of Joseph and Hattie Mae Knight of Coalgate, Oklahoma. At age 5, the Knight family relocated to Wewoka, Oklahoma where she spent most of her early years. It was there at the Wewoka elementary school that she met her future husband, Hugh E. Jeffery. After graduating from Wewoka High School, Hugh enlisted into the United States Navy and Ovadeen worked for the telephone company as a long distance telephone operator and then managed TG&Y Variety Stores. While on leave from the Navy, Ovadeen and Hugh married at her adopted sister’s home in Clinton, Oklahoma in 1944. As a Navy wife, she moved to Norfork, Virginia, until her husband received his tour of duty orders and then returned to Clinton, Oklahoma living with her sister and family until Hugh returned to the States. The couple lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, California and finally Georgia the last few years of their lives. Mrs. Jeffery resided at Benton House of Alpharetta until recently being diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Being placed under Hospice care, she was moved into her daughter’s home where she remained until her death. Known for her wit and friendliness, Mrs. Jeffery was a faithful member of the church of Christ that regularly meets on King Road in Roswell, GA. She was a faithful and loving wife, a nurturing mother and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a living example of a godly woman, much like the one praised by King Solomon in Proverbs 31:30: “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Ovadeen had four biological and three adopted siblings. She is survived by three children: Susan Heucheroth, Nancy Fink of Milton, GA, and Hugh E. Jeffery, Jr. of Woodstock, GA. She had six grandchildren (one deceased) and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Service to celebrate Mrs. Jeffery life will be held at the Northside Chapel in Roswell, GA, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3pm. The family will be receiving friends at the Northside Chapel prior to Saturday’s service from 1 PM to 3 PM. Private family interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery the following Monday.
