Mrs. Bernice G. Warren

Bernice Griffith Warren, aged 77, passed away on March 14, 2015 after a valiant struggle with leukemia. Bernice was born July 28, 1937, in Crawfordville, Georgia, the daughter of Paul David Griffith and Ruth Armour; she is survived by her son Justin Warren and her sister Helen Simons. As a child, she enjoyed playing basketball and having fun with her four brothers (Paul, Billy, James, and Clarence) and one sister (Helen Simons) - she attended the Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville, GA graduating in 1956. Bernice enjoyed attending her class reunions, plays and historical events at the Square in Crawfordville – she loved being involved with family reunions and cherished the time spent with family. She dearly loved her siblings their spouses and her nieces and nephews. The loss of her mother, brothers, husband, and nephews through the years was always painful but many a story was told of the wonderful times spent with each. She met her husband, William Jackson Warren, on a blind date and was married to him on June 10, 1961 at Jackson Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta. They had one son, William Justin Warren. For the last 48 years their home was in Roswell, Georgia where they were very active in the community that has grown beyond their wildest dreams. Bernice was a true friend and a loving Mother, she was a big advocate of music and encouraged her son Justin to participate from the early age of four when she enrolled him in piano lessons, Bernice was always involved with Justin and his friends and always very active as a mother – she was just an awesome mom! She built close relationships with many of her neighbors through the years, many of whom became dear lifelong friends. Additionally, she maintained many friendships from her early years in Crawfordville, GA that continued on through her entire life. Bernice, and her husband Jack, were devout Christians and always involved with a church participating in choir, Sunday school, youth programs, couples groups and many outreach ministries. Through the years they were members of the First Baptist Church of Roswell under the stewardship of Pastor Brantley Seymour and were founding members of the North River Baptist Church under Pastor William Geren (Brother Bill). They became affiliated with the Roswell United Methodist Church under Pastor Malone Dodson as well as Woodstock Baptist Church under Pastor Johnny Hunt. Bernice was a great caregiver for many – she visited her Mother (Granny Ruth) almost every day when Granny was confined to a nursing home. She was especially involved with her brothers and sister as each became ill over the years, she was always willing to help in times of need. Bernice was a role model, fiercely independent, somewhat stubborn on occasion, but always an inspiration. We’re very sad that you have left us so quickly, but we are so happy to know you are in Heaven with Jack and many others. Thank you for blessing our lives! A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2:00 PM at Roswell United Methodist Church. Dr. Malone Dodson will officiate. the family will receive friends Thursday afternoon 1:30 - 2:00 PM at the church prior to the service.
