Mr. Brian B. Cate

Brian Benton Cate, age 53, of Roswell, GA passed away on July 14, 2022. Brian was born on April 1, 1969 in Atlanta, GA to Mr. Charles Edward Cate and Dr. Merry Mark Merryfield. He graduated from Lithia Springs High School in 1987 and went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and from where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography in 1991. After college, Brian opened Thumbs Up Diner in East Point, GA in 2005 and in Roswell, GA in 2009. Brian was an incredible force of life. Few will have known someone more hard-working and fun. His love of family was immeasurable. He loved his business and was so proud of all of his employees, whom he considered his family, as well. He cherished his dogs, hiking literally everywhere, white water rafting, had an insatiable love for travel and quite honestly, he could turn any moment into a life-filled event. He was like no other. He was unique. He was loved. Brian was a force of nature, for sure. Brian was an amazing, caring, loving and fun husband and father. Brian loved being a father and was entirely devoted to his girls, always making time for them like no other. He mentored countless people, always giving someone a chance, never asking for a reward or return. He even participated in several mission trips to the Dominican Republic. He was truly a happy soul who loved giving people helping hands up in life and was so excited to see others succeed. Brian was a generous soul, especially in the end of his life, as he was an organ donor. This final choice of his life, the most selfless act one can do, sums up who Brian was. It is an arduous process, especially for the family, but the choice to be an organ donor is one Brian felt deeply and his family honored that choice. Brian will go on to save the lives of many, giving them another chance at… everything. A chance to live life to the fullest. How fitting. Brian is preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Cate; his stepmother, Linda Blanken Cate; and his father-in-law, Ivan Winston "Chip" Wood. He is survived by his wife, Angela Wood Cate; his daughters, Candler Isabella Cate and Kylie Anne Jama Cate; his mother, Merry Mark Merryfield (Jim Columbo); his brother, James Cate (Amy); his niece, Grace Caroline Cate; his nephew, Preston Charles Cate; his uncle, Ronnie Cate (Julie); his aunt, Freddie Towle (Charles); his aunt, Linda Cate-Whiten (Kenny); his cousins in Tennessee; his mother-in-law, Anne A. “Susie” Wood; his brother-in-law, Allen W. Wood (Beth); his nephew, Tony Yawn (Jennifer); his niece, Amanda Henderson (Kevin); his nephew, Winston Wood; his sister-in-law, Ashley W. Duke (Steve); and his nieces; Jordan, Eliza and Macie Jean Duke. Brian’s family will receive friends on Monday, July 25, 2022 from 3:00pm until 4:00pm at Northside Chapel. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 4:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
