Mr. Charles Pettett

Charles Lamar Pettett, 83, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away October 15, 2018, after a short illness. Charles was born, December 11, 1934, the eldest of three children to the late Hubert and Amanda Pettett. He was a lifetime resident of Cobb County and lived in East Cobb with his wife of 62 years, Betty Mabry Pettett. Charles was a longtime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and over the years enjoyed being a member of the church choir, serving in various leadership roles, and in most recent years being a member of the Heritage Club. Over the years his career focused mainly on business management and accounting. He was self-employed for most of his career and remained active in business decisions even after retirement. Charles also had many other skills and talents that ranged from building construction to mechanical repairs to farming. His attention to detail was remarkable and clearly evident in his work. Charles enjoyed a number of hobbies including collecting antique tools, solving crossword puzzles, and traveling which included frequent trips to Florida. He was a quiet, simple man with a witty sense of humor. Much of that humor was shared with the family while eating their weekly family dinners at their home. The weekly meals have been a family tradition for over 20 years. Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Mabry Pettett, son, Charles Wayne Pettett, daughter, Leigh Pettett Rogers (Chuck), and two granddaughters, Courtney and Abbey Rogers. He is also survived by his brother, Nelson V. Pettett, sister, Anne Pettett Allen, along with numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held at Northside Chapel, Roswell, Georgia, on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Marietta, Georgia. Following the service, interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia. Donations may be made to one’s favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
