Christine Brown

BROWN – Christine M. Brown of Roswell, GA, formerly of Birmingham, passed away Sunday morning, February 8, 2009, after a brief illness. Mrs. Brown was born on November 24, 1916, in Gadsden, AL, to Mr. and Mrs. James L. McConkey. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Grady F. Brown, one sister, Ruby L. Ray, and one brother, James W. McConkey. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Brown Breeding and husband, George, of Roswell; two beloved granddaughters, Alisha Christine Lovell and husband, Dan, of Birmingham, AL; and Wendy Leigh Kleha and husband, Frank, of Roswell; four precious great grandchildren, Ashlyn Carol Lovell, James Edward “Jay” Lovell, Cody Pritchard Kleha, and Alisha “Allie” Marie Kleha. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Betty McConkey and Mae Hendrix; one brother-in-law, Sidney Brown, all of Birmingham. Special nieces and nephews include Wynne Nell, Sherry, Gerry, Jimmy, Christine “Sissy”, Lera Ann, Mary and Stanley. Mrs. Brown spent most of her 92 years in Birmingham, AL. She retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield at the age of 65. She was a member of West End United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women. After relocating to Alpharetta, GA, in 1988, she joined Alpharetta First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Mary Nallie Circle and “54 and More” church group. Her other interests included playing canasta with her church friends and playing bingo at Kroger, Publix and Manor on the Square. For the past two years, Mrs. Brown resided at Manor on The Square Assisted Living, where she became friends with some wonderful residents and caregivers. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA, 770/645-1414. The family will receive visitors two hours prior to the service. Interment will take place at Valhalla Cemetery in Birmingham, with graveside services on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM (CST). In lieu of flowers, memorials in Christine Brown’s name can be made to Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, 69 North Main Street, Alpharetta, GA, or Eagle Ranch, Chesnut Mountain, GA.
