Mrs. Earline Kennedy Johnson

Earline Kennedy Johnson, born July 8, 1942, in Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on August 3rd in Woodstock, GA, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Spotsylvania High School, VA, class of 1959. She received a nursing scholarship from Mary Washington Hospital upon her graduation and studied at the Johnston-Willis Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA (class of 1962). Earline married Lt. Ronald Paul Johnson, United States Marine Corps, on September 7, 1968, at Fredericksburg Pentecostal Church, Fredericksburg, VA. Her first child, Kirsten, was born when her husband was serving in Vietnam. Earline and Ron raised three children, stationed on various bases in California (29 Palms, Barstow, Monterey, Oceanside), and then moving to Okinawa, Japan, from 1978-1981. In Oceanside, Earline welcomed a Vietnamese refugee family to live with her family for over a year. Earline and Ron were active members of Officers' Christian Fellowship (OCF) and held Bible studies in their various homes for servicemen and women. They were always active in their local military Chapel, serving and leading selflessly and with hearts full of love for those around them. While in Okinawa, Earline learned the arts of Bonsai, flower arrangement and Japanese doll-making. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, welcoming servicemen and women into her home for Thanksgivings and Christmases. She supported her husband in his work with Teen Challenge and hosted an English club in her home. After Ron’s retirement in 1981 from the USMC, they moved to Springfield, MO. There she returned to nursing, working part-time, and volunteered at her church, Central Assembly of God, serving in the toddler nursery for over 10 years. Earline and Ron moved to Goldsboro, NC, in 1992, where they served on the staff of a local church and worked with enlisted soldiers. In 2001, they moved to Warner Robins, GA, where Ron first worked at a local church, and then as a computer programmer at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Earline was very involved in the Chapel on base, teaching Sunday school class, working in the nursery and helping to host meals and coffee times. Earline loved to travel. There are precious memories of her last trip to Europe to visit Holland with her two daughters. In 2015 she moved to Alpharetta, GA, to be closer to her son, Paul, and his family. She and Paul designed and built homes next to each other in Woodstock, GA, planning garden areas and landscapes. Earline was able to spend the last year in her new home, welcoming family and guests. Earline is remembered for the friendship and love she offered to all those who came into her life. She made delicious birthday cakes of all designs, enjoyed gardening and decorating her house for the seasons. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Earline was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald P. Johnson, Maj ret USMC; her brother, Gilbert Kennedy; and her parents, Arthur and Maude Kennedy. She is survived by her three children: Dr. Kirsten Johnson, married to Professor Jonathan Herring, of Oxford, England; Mrs. Marcae Robertson and her husband Dr. Nick Robertson, of Minneapolis, MN; Dr. Paul Johnson and his wife Dr. Jennifer Johnson of Woodstock, GA; and by her sister Mrs. Brenda Andrews of Woodford, VA. Earline has eight grandchildren who will sorely miss her.
