Egbert Wesley Thompson

Mr. Egbert Wesley Thompson, age 88, died Sunday, March 25, 2007. His wife for 67 ½ years, Edna Tatum Thompson, preceded him in death on February 11, 2007. Survivors include three daughters: Eloise Barron and her husband, Jack; Janice Richards and her husband, Larry; Peggy Stracke and her husband, King; six grandchildren: Wesley Thomas Barron; Heather Richards Hollingsworth and her husband, Travis; Tiffany Richards Knighton and her husband, John; Stephanie Stracke; Whitney Stracke; and Molly Stracke; four great-grandchildren: Hunter Hollingsworth; Ansley Hollingsworth; Jack Knighton; and Will Knighton; one brother, Everett Thompson and his wife, Dorcas; one sister, Margean Haney and her husband, Dan; and one foster son, Grant Williford, his wife Pam and son Grant, Jr. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Grace Bales Mashburn, Charlie and Betty Tatum, and Doyle and Omie Grimes as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thompson, the son of the late Myrtie Stewart Thompson and Howard Wesley Thompson, was born January 12, 1919 in Forsyth County, Georgia. He attended Forsyth County Schools. The Thompsons were married on August 5, 1939 and owned and operated a small country grocery store near Alpharetta. Mr. Thompson worked at Bell Aircraft and then Lockheed Aircraft where he retired in January 1974. He received numerous awards for exemplary service on several aircraft including the B-29 (serving as the wiring engineer on the Enola Gay) and electrical engineer supervisor on the B-47, C-130, Jet Star and the C-141. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday from 1 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m. until 1:00 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell. Services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Midway United Methodist Church (old sanctuary) in Forsyth County on Hwy. 9 north of Alpharetta with the Reverend Bud Sutton and Reverend Carl Jameson officiating.
