Mrs. Eleanor Elizabeth Hughes

Eleanor Elizabeth Hughes (101) peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 16, 2016. She was affectionately known to her family as Nana. Eleanor was born in Melrose, MA on June 7, 1915 to Daniel and Hazel McIntyre. She grew up in New York City, later moving to Mansfield, MA, where she attended high school. In 1934, she married Raymond Reed Thayer, and they moved to Hialeah, Florida in 1948. Then in 1956, she married Daniel Hughes, and moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1957. She worked for Pan American and Boeing during this time, and travelled the world with her husband Dan. She and Dan later moved to Roswell, GA in 1995. Eleanor will be remembered as a loving wife, wonderful Mother, cherished Grandmother and caring friend. Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Daniel Hughes, her sister Isabella Cooper, her son-in-law, Rev. Jack Pilger and grandson, Christopher Thayer. She is survived by her three children, Joan Pilger of Woodstock, GA, Clinton Thayer (Leona) of Westminster, CA and Dianne Catlin (Wesley) of West Sacramento, CA., 13 grandchildren, Susan Dunphy (Kevin) of Roswell, GA, Diane Hollander (Scott) of Woodstock, GA, John Pilger (Holly) of Marietta, GA, Judy Williams (Greg) of Woodstock, GA Jim Pilger (Wendy) of Woodstock, GA, Linda Nefos (John) of Phillips Ranch, CA, Carolyn Thayer of Lake Elsinore, CA, Lori Hamilton (Greg) of Murietta, CA, David Thayer of Los Angeles, CA, Elisa (Chris) Collacott of San Mateo, CA, Danielle (Chris) Catlin-Wright of West Sacramento, CA, Peter Caitlin of West Sacramento, CA, 15 great grandchildren, Kelly, Rachel and Austin Pilger, Joshua (Hollie), Matthew and Phillip Williams, Caitlin and Christina Hollander, Christina Benites (Chris), Lauren Zielinski (Greg), Jonathan, Eric, and Neil Hamilton, Ainsley and Sam Catlin-Wright, and 3 great-great grandchildren, Alexander Lee, Cruz Benites and Charlotte Benites and her niece Linda Long, of Denver CO. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 3:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church 12900 Arnold Mill, Roswell, Georgia 30075 with Rev. Glenn Hannigan officiating. The graveside service will follow the funeral service at the Ebenezer Cemetery, directly across the street. Preceding the funeral service, the family will receive friends during a visitation time at 2:00 PM at Ebenezer UMC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor’s name to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church – Sanctuary Endowment Fund. Ebenezer UMC
