Mrs. Ethel M. Schissell

Ethel Mozley Schissell, age 91, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 with her family by her side. Ethel was born in 1929 in Lithia Springs, GA and was the daughter of the late William and Evelyn (McArthur) Mozley. She attended Douglas County High School, Douglasville, GA and Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, GA before moving to Washington D.C. and beginning what became a 23 year career on Capitol Hill where she held several positions, including staff assistant to the Chairman of the Senate Interior Committee, Henry (Scoop) Jackson, and as constituent liaison for several congressmen. She met her late husband, Robert, in Washington D.C. and together with their three daughters resided in Potomac, MD, and eventually settled near the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, MD. Ethel loved to travel and, as a young woman, lived in Berkeley, CA and Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In her retirement years, Ethel returned to the Atlanta area and resided in Roswell, GA. She enjoyed being involved in many clubs and volunteer opportunities, including volunteering her time at the Fox Theater and as a docent at the Governor’s mansion in Atlanta. She was an avid reader who loved history, as well as discussing current events. Ethel loved to spend time with her family, who brought her much joy, as she did to them. She was predeceased by her husband, LTC Robert J. Schissell, and brothers Thomas H. Mozley and William G. Mozley. Ethel is survived by daughters Jennifer Schenk and husband Mike, Robyn Hyman and husband Dave, Debra Stuckey and husband Jeff; brother J. Arthur Mozley and wife Tammy; 5 grandchildren: Katie, Kelly, Keith, Shannon, and Brett, and 3 great grandchildren: Anniston, Ainsleigh, and Asher, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held in Roswell, GA with family and friends before moving to her final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA alongside her late husband, LTC Robert J. Schissell.
