Gregory Blake Bragg

Greg Bragg, 70, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Spagnola-Bragg (married 36 years) and their beloved sons: Tyler Bragg and Trevor Bragg. His sister, Jamie Bragg Thurby; mother-in-law, Alice M. Elias; sisters-in-law: Teresa (Robert) Reinders and Laura Luedtke. He was “Uncle Greg” to Hunter Thurby, Jessica Reinders, Mark Reinders, Vanessa (Phil) VanDenBrink, Alyssa Spagnola, April (Jose) Soria, and Heather (Abel) Lopez and numerous cousins and second cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ima Bragg Penn; his father, James Thomas Bragg; and his brother, James Bragg. Greg was born in Birmingham, AL, but grew up in Murfreesboro, TN. His hometown buddies still refer to him as “Shell”, a nickname they gave him while he was a football player and equipment manager during his freshman year of high school. Also, he was very proud of earning his Eagle Scout Award while in the Boy Scouts. Greg always said find your hobby and your passion and if you can do that for a living, it will never feel like work! If you asked him why he felt successful in his career, he would tell you it was all by simply “doing what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it”. While in high school, a teacher showed him how to develop black and white film and that sparked his love for photography. After taking photography courses in college, he decided to take a chance on a job with Wolf Camera & Video in Nashville. This led to sales positions in Jacksonville and ultimately a district manager position in South Florida. While at Wolf Camera, Greg was introduced to Linda (but that’s another story) as well as the telescope industry where his initial love of astronomy began. In addition to working at Wolf Camera, Greg worked for camera manufacturers and then began selling as an independent rep for various companies. He transitioned to the Telescope Industry and worked for many of the major astronomy equipment manufacturers & suppliers. Working as a marketing and sales rep, he attended star parties and they became a true passion for him. It was at these events throughout the years where Greg met numerous people in the amateur astronomy community, many of whom he considered to be close friends. In June 2023, Greg officially retired and continued to keep in contact with many in the industry. Greg had many interests and hobbies. He was a true music connoisseur and had an extensive collection of songs. Over the years he accumulated thousands of songs in his personal collection. He listened to music for hours and prided himself on knowing the names and the artists who performed them. He often challenged his wife and sons to test their knowledge of a song title and artist. In addition, he would love to ask friends about their favorite song (no matter how obscure the title) and pride himself on having it on his playlist. He loved playing golf with his buddies and had a spreadsheet to record the score of the games played. He also loved cars, specifically Porsche, and went to several Petit Le Mans races with his sons. Greg loved being around people and making everyone feel welcome. The Braggs lived in the same neighborhood since 1997 and hosted numerous gatherings at their house. Over the years those “neighbors” become close friends and more of an extension of the Bragg family as we shared life together. In the last decade, his almost daily “5 o’clock with the guys” is an example of gathering neighbors together. Greg was a man of faith. The Bragg family began attending Northminster Presbyterian Church in 1997 and officially joined in January 1998 where they sat in the same pew every Sunday. Greg was an active member of the church serving as an Elder, Chair of Youth Committee, and most recently as a member of Business Finance. His greatest passion at church was the Tuesday Evening Men’s Group. Many evenings, Greg would lead thought-provoking programs. He was also responsible for the communication of this group for too many years to count. His objective was always to encourage the men to come together and meet in a comfortable space and explore their faith. While Greg enjoyed music, photography, astronomy, entertaining, and golf, his true passion was his family. His love for his immediate family was undeniable. Greg had a special bond with his sister, Jamie, a relationship strengthened over the years of sharing the joys and challenges of life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda (married 36 years). There is no doubt he considered his sons, Tyler and Trevor, his greatest accomplishments in life. Also, there was that memorable night in 1995 when he brought Trevor into this world with the help of a 911 operator. The Bragg family enjoyed countless days and nights watching their favorite sports teams. Greg was an avid Braves baseball fan, and he enjoyed watching Georgia Bulldog sports (despite his youngest being a Georgia Tech grad). Together, the “Bragg Fam” had many traveling adventures together. Greg shared his love of the national parks with his family and there were numerous trips out west exploring rocks and the beautiful scenery. Recently, Greg and Linda purchased a truck and an RV, and they had just started mini vacations “glamping” in the southeast. Throughout all these adventures, he always had his camera ready to take the “perfect photo”. Greg had an extraordinary gift for forming lasting friendships. His genuine interest in others, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome turned strangers into lifelong friends. Greg was a one-of-a-kind individual and will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. He was an incredible husband, father, brother, and friend. We know he is now at peace and watching over us from the ultimate star party in the sky!
