Mrs. Guynell Gilbert Martin

Guynell Gilbert Martin, 82, of Alpharetta, Georgia, went to her heavenly home on January 31, 2017, surrounded by her family and the pastor of her church. Guynell was born in Forsyth County, Georgia, on June 7, 1934, the youngest child of the late Guy Braswell Gilbert and Velvie Elizabeth (Lee) Gilbert. Guynell was born on her mother’s 39th birthday. She graduated from Cumming High School in 1950 and married the love of her life, Billy Martin. She was a homemaker for many years, volunteering at her children’s school and teaching Sunday School. As her children grew up, she went to work in the cafeteria at Crestwood High School and retired from Chattahoochee High School after 25 years. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was saved and baptized at Haw Creek Baptist Church as a child and taught Sunday School at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She has been a member of True Way Baptist Church for 32 years. Guynell was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Rev. William Louie (Billy) Martin; her infant daughter and infant son, William Ricky Martin; her brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Mozelle (Hubbard) Gilbert; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby (Gilbert) and Delmar Tullis and Ruth (Gilbert) and Everett Mullinax; her brother-in-law and sister-in law, Charles and Betty (Walker) Martin; and a nephew, Ronnie Mullinax. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Martin) and Ricky Collett; her son and daughter-in-law, William (Bill) and Tammy (Stroup) Martin; her grandchildren, Stephanie Collett, Vanessa (Collett) Darby and Joe Darby, and Tyler Collett and fiancée, Chelsea George; and great-grandsons, Hunter Darby and William Collett; nieces and nephews, Jan & Doug Harrison, Gary & Susan Mullinax, Michael Mullinax, Rickey & Patti Mullinax, Larry & Pam Gilbert, Jerry & Pam Gilbert, Linda & Elbert Clark, Brenda & James Patterson, and Chuck & Johnna Martin. Several cousins also survive. The family will receive friends at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors on Wednesday, February 1, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Thursday February 2, from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM, and Friday February 3, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM time of service.
