Mrs. Helen Thacker Standridge

Helen T. Standridge, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 5th 2017 in Roswell, Georgia at North Fulton Hospital. She is survived by her children, Lynda C. Swann, George “Tommy” Standridge, Donald F. Standridge and Piper M. Standridge. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters 1 brother and 2 daughters in-law. She was preceded in death by Hugh Gilliland, George W. Bell and Willard F. Standridge, as well as 12 siblings. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. If you knew her well, you loved her and she loved you. Even in her later years, she always remembered to send a handwritten card for your birthday, Christmas or sometimes just a note to let you know she was thinking of you. She loved to cook and serve your favorite food. She also made sure you had more than enough to eat. If you can imagine the most graceful and gracious “Southern Belle” with a heart of gold, that was her. If you needed something, she was the first one there to help. She would give you a home to stay in when you needed it and she would make it your home while you were there. She loved God, her family, her church and her dear friends. Her circle of love consisted of far too many people to name. After raising her children and helping to raise her grandchildren, she enjoyed traveling. She went on many trips with family and friends. This was well deserved because when her children and grandchildren were growing up she would forego things for herself to ensure they had everything they needed and most things they wanted. She was extremely generous and kind to everyone. Helen had an amazing green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She could grow flowers or plants with amazing results. She loved the holidays and always hosted extended family for Christmas dinner every year when she still lived in her own home. No one departed without abundant leftovers for an additional few meals For the past 17 years she lived happily with her son Donald, daughter in-law Brenda and granddaughter Samantha. It was important to her to contribute to the family. In those early years, she helped out by driving Samantha to school and other activities while she still could. She preferred taking care of others even as her health began to decline. In her own style, she continued to insist and was able to do most things for herself. As much as she will be missed, there is comfort in knowing she isn’t suffering any pain. She is with her heavenly family and our Lord. She would be upset for any of us to be angry, sad or anything but happy. She wanted each of us to have good health, a happy life and love one another. For her, we celebrate her amazing life, legacy and those wonderful memories left upon us.
