Mr. Hugh Phillip Dorris

Mr. Hugh Phillip Dorris, 81, of Valdosta, GA passed away on June 9, 2019. He leaves his children, Jeffrey Hugh Dorris (Dana Pruitt Dorris) and Malinda Dorris Marrache; his 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, Blake Gillespie, Brooke Dorris, Patrick Gillespie, Mallory Dorris, Jack Gillespie, and Gage Gillespie; his siblings; Alan Dorris (Doris Dorris), John Dorris (Linda Dorris), and Carolyn Dorris Swain; his Aunt, Katherine Dorris Hodges; his nephews, Charlie Dorris (Carla Dorris) and David Dorris (Stephanie Dorris); his great niece and nephews, Blair Dorris, Blake Dorris, and Dylan Dorris; along with many dear friends and work family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Hugh Dorris and Ruth Jackson Dorris, of Roswell, GA, and his nephew, Brantley Dorris of Alpharetta, GA. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Roswell, in Roswell, GA, and most recently attended Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA. After graduating from Roswell High School in 1956, he served in the Air National Guard of Georgia and the Reserve of the United States Air Force until 1958. He attended the University of Georgia, Atlanta (now called Georgia State University), and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan for most of his life. He was a proud member of the Georgia Bulldog Club and was a football season ticket holder for over 30 years. He worked as an accountant for the Lockheed Corporation, in the 1960's, and had a successful career in the paper products industry for over 50 years. He retired from the Fulton Paper Company in 2005, and was most recently employed by Catko Distributors Inc, in Valdosta, GA. Hugh was a great supporter of many charitable organizations and was always willing to help a family member or friend in need. He loved the beach, traveling, good food, shopping, flowers, plants and animals, and, of course, his family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and seldom missed an opportunity to get together with his family and friends. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. His family will receive friends on Friday, June 14, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 1250 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA 30075. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Roswell, 710 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075, on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA. Those wishing may make donations to the American Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
