Lt. Col. James P. Flowers

US Army, Lt. Col. James P. Flowers (Ret), 76 of Roswell, Georgia passed away, April 06, 2019 after a short illness. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Suzanne Cameron Flowers, Roswell, GA; daughter, Staci Carpenter and husband Art, Richmond, VA; son J. Patrick Flowers and wife Renee, Front Royal, VA; daughter, Laura Lowry, Roswell, GA; granddaughters, Caitlyn, Lauren, Allison, Richmond, VA; Leila Higby, Germany; Reno Vaughan, Front Royal, VA; Hannah Lowry, Sydney Lowry, Meghan Lowry, Graesyn Lowry, Santa Rosa Beach, FL; sister Frankie Van Cleave, Marietta, GA and predeceased by his brother Wayland Parrott Flowers. He was an active member of St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, Roswell, GA, AVVBA and UNG alumni association and other professional organizations. Jim or Jimmy grew up in Dawson, GA and was the son of Leila M. Horsley Flowers and Wayland P. Flowers, deceased Army veteran, who died in the Battle of the Bulge. As a young boy, Jim was motivated to learn as much as possible about his father and his experience as a soldier. After his graduation from Terrell County high school in Dawson, GA in 1960, Jim pursued his interest in military life by attending North Georgia College, now University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, GA. He excelled in military life and graduated, DMS with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1964. He entered the Army shortly after graduation with his first assignment at Ft. Benning, GA and would jokingly remark that the expression, “Join the Army and See the World”, didn’t apply to him since Ft Benning was only 30 minutes from his home. Over his 20 year career as an Army officer, he had tours in Vietnam, 25th Infantry Division, was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; , MAAG China, Taipei, Taiwan; 5th Signal Command, Worms, Germany, where he completed his MS degree from Boston University, Manheim, Germany and various state side assignments retiring from the Army at the Pentagon, Washington DC in 1984. Following his retirement from the Army, Jim was District Manager of Equitable Life Assurance Society in Baltimore, MD and Wintson-Salem, NC. He joined US Security Associates, Inc., Roswell, GA in 1993 as the Director, VP of Administration and retired in 2013. Jim was known for his sense of humor, love of God, his family and country, always saluting the American flag as he drove down the driveway in his yellow sports car. He left us with a legacy of boundless love and his belief that the “measure of a man” is not in wealth but in what he can do for others. We will forever miss, Jim, Jimmy, Poppy, his smile, laugh, humor and his kind compassionate spirit.
