James H. Potter

James Henry Potter, 71, of Woodstock, GA passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday evening, June 20, due to complications related to heart disease and kidney failure. Jim was born on May 1, 1941 to Henry and Marion Potter in Bridgeport, CT. A graduate of Fairfield University, Jim spent the first half of his life living and working in Connecticut before moving with his wife and five children to Dunwoody in 1977. Jim's career as a management executive and CEO included positions with several companies including Booz Allen Hamilton, Information Systems of America, The Computer Company, and his own consulting companies Management Matters, Inc and Management Systems of America. Jim was a faithful Catholic and Eucharistic Minister, an avid golfer and former president of Dunwoody Country Club, a self-described political junkie, and a passionate fan of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Donovan Potter, and his five loving children and their spouses Lynn (Potter) & David Kirkland of Acworth, David Potter of Roswell, Shirley Escobar & James M. Potter of Sandy Springs, Kristin Heyer & Mark Potter of San Jose, CA, and Allison & William Potter of Alpharetta, and his five grandsons, Owen, Luke, Sean, Ryan & Isaac. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Roberta (Bobbi) Potter & Bruce Green of Glenwood, NJ. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Lynn Potter Riecke who passed away in January 2011 in Saratoga, NY. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, June 24 from 4 - 7 pm, with a Rosary at 6 pm at Northside Chapel, located at 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA 30075. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, June 25 at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 535 Rucker Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30004. A procession will follow from the Church with interment at Macedonia Memorial Park at 10685 East Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA, 30115. Those wishing to make donations can honor Jim's life by contributing to the American Cancer Society, to which Jim often contributed in honor of his mother, Marion.
