Mr. James B. Hughes

James Bentley Hughes, age 82, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was born on May 25, 1932 to loving parents Albert and Olive Hughes of St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Clayton High School in Clayton, Missouri in 1950. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Missouri in 1954. Immediately following graduation, he married the love of his life, Barbara, and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in the 3rd Armored Division, 65th Field Artillery Battalion as a 1st Lieutenant. Most of his business career was spent working in Human Resources for International Paper from which he retired in 1991. Above all, Jim was a godly man. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Roswell where he served as a deacon and as a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Gideon’s International, served as a USO volunteer at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (Atlanta) for incoming and outgoing military personnel and he served on the homebound ministry at his church. During his life, he enjoyed travel, camping, golf, walking, and baseball (both Cardinals and Braves). Jim loved his family beyond measure and leaves behind many special memories with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an example to all who knew him of Christian love and charity. He will be remembered for his faith, sense of humor, loyalty and loving heart. Jim is survived by Barbara Atkins Hughes, loving wife and mother of David Bentley Hughes (Trish) of Brentwood, Tennessee and Carole Hughes Wooten (Chuck) of Franklin, Tennessee and grandchildren: Chip Wooten (Kati), Lauren Grace and Will Wooten and Sam, Andrew and Matthew Hughes and great granddaughter, Annie Olivia Wooten. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at noon at First Baptist Church of Roswell, 710 Mimosa Boulevard, Roswell, Georgia. There will be a time of visitation from 10:30-11:45 before the service at noon and a lunch reception will follow.
