Mrs. Jane Rowe Murphy

Jane Rowe Murphy of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away peacefully under the care of Kindred Hospice and surrounded by loved ones on Monday, May 7, 2018 after battling an extended illness. Jane was born November 27, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Valdosta, Georgia. Jane was a 1954 graduate of Valdosta High School, attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Valdosta State University. Upon graduation from college, she moved to Atlanta where she was employed by Citizen & Southern (C&S) bank as a teller. It was there that she met the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Henry Hill Murphy lll. Jane volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta in the Cath Lab for 25 years. It was something she enjoyed greatly. Jane also loved nature and animals - especially her childhood horse Lucky. She often shared how much she loved riding him and how she once got into trouble for riding him on the golf course. She enjoyed watching nature programs and reading. Her favorite things to read were journals and articles about medical advancements. She was very knowledgeable regarding new medicines, treatments and procedures. Many times she would be more up to date on the latest medicines or procedures than her doctors where and didn’t mind informing them of that, sometimes via a sticky note list sent with her husband. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother. She loved swinging with her grandchildren on her screened-in porch and reading to them. Her favorite times were when all 5 grandchildren where seated around her kitchen island entertaining her while they ate dinner, crafted or just visited. They gave her overwhelming joy and made her so proud. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Nena Rowe, and sister, Mary-Wallace Markland. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Henry; son Dr. Tom Murphy and his wife Cindy of Woodstock, GA; daughter Katherine Shirley and her husband Richard of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Emily, Meghan and Henry Murphy and Hannah and Nathan Shirley. Jane was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14 from 6pm - 8pm at Northside Chapel in Roswell, GA. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 15 at 11:30am at The Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association. Henry, Katie and Tom would like to thank the staff of The Phoenix of Milton, for taking such good care of and loving on mom. When she passed away, she most definitely was surrounded by family and love.
