Jim A. Lyons

Jim A Lyons died December 20, 2005 in Roswell, Georgia after succumbing to pancreas/liver cancer. Born October 31, 1924 to Homer and Atha Lyons in Mount Vernon, Indiana, Jim grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa. He enrolled in the United States Marines in 1943, served during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. While working on his engineering degree in Denver, Colorado he married June Marie Wagner. Their first son Barry was born in Denver in 1950 and Jim started his career as fire investigation and prevention engineer in the insurance industry. Jim's work for a national insurance company allowed him to live in many parts of the United States. A second son, Gregory, was born in California in 1953. The family then moved to Seattle, Washington and on to Rhode Island where daughter Karel was born in 1960. He sadly lost June too soon when she died in 1976 in Minnesota. Soon after Jim was blessed to find his second wife, Leola Nelson, with whom he spent the rest of his life. Subsequent advances in Jim's career culminated in a move to Roswell, Georgia where he retired. Jim volunteered many hours for the Boy Scouts with his sons & was a volunteer with Calvary Children’s Home. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and golfer. He was active in his church and served one term as Board President of Brookfield West Country Club. Jim was always “on call” to friends and neighbors who needed help with household projects. He is survived by his wife, Leola Lyons, married 28 years, brothers Jerry and Jack of Texas and sister Ruth Ann of Nevada, sons Barry & wife Heidi Krause-Lyons of Minnesota, Gregory Lyons of Colorado, daughter Karel & husband Bob Wilkinson of Virginia, and stepdaughter Sandra & husband Jay Miller. Jim was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by June Lyons, his brothers Bud, Bill and Joe and sisters Molly and Marge. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell. Family will receive friends following the services in the church parlor.
