Julia Marie Barnes Clardy

Julia Marie Barnes Clardy, (age 88) was born June 13, 1922, in Brownwood, Texas to Palmer and Victoreen Barnes. She spent her childhood in Brownwood within a loving family and graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas at the age of 19. Julia attended Brownwood High School at the same time as Len Clardy but they did not marry until March 24, 1947. Their first few years of marriage were spent in Spring Grove, PA and they returned to Houston, Texas to raise their family, son Alan and daughter Janet. In 1970 they relocated to Dunwoody, GA. and became active members of Dunwoody United Methodist Church. Their next move took them to the Crabapple area and then finally to Belmont Village. During Julia’s full life she mastered the art of friendship and was loved by many who saw a true spirit of kindness, warmth, and wisdom. Her smile was always available to any and all, and her love of being a wife and mother to her family was abundant. One of her biggest joys was to make aprons for friends and sometimes even strangers who reflected serving others as she did in her life. She died peacefully after a short illness at Peachtree Christian Hospice. Her beloved husband of 64 years Len was at her side as she left this world to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with her savior. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, brother Ray and sisters Adele, Mina, and Nancy. Remembering her sweet soul is her husband Len, her son Alan Barnes Clardy and wife Allison and their children Alexis and Glenn of Columbia, Maryland, and Janet Clardy Hellman and husband Jon (Alpharetta, GA.) and their children Eric, Greg and Julia, who was named for her beloved grandmother. A memorial service will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 1st at 11:00 am with Reverend Wiley Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am prior to the service. Anyone interested in making a contribution in her memory should direct it to the United Methodist Children’s Home c/o Dunwoody Methodist Church, 1548 Mount Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA. 30338 in hopes that children there could be surrounded by the love that was the essence of Julia Clardy. Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory of Roswell is assisting the Clardy family.
