Katheryn Kaple Hummel

Katheryn (Katie) Kaple Hummel, 52, of Woodstock, GA, died, on Monday, September 26, 2022. Katie was born to Don and Marion Kaple on December 11, 1969 in Atlanta, GA. She was raised in Omaha, NE and graduated from Burke High School in 1987. After graduation, Katie began her adventure in adult life as a caring, giving young woman who met each day with joy and anticipation. Above all, she loved her God and Church, her grandmother and every stray kitten or puppy she saw. Katie’s sense of humor, giving spirit and love of life endeared her to all she met. On June 10, 1995, she married Frank Hummel, the love of her life. Katie and Frank shared 27 years together and birthed two beautiful girls, Anna (23) and Claire (19). Katie was devoted to raising her girls to be strong in their faith, so she was active in the children's religious education program at St. Thomas Aquinas both teaching and volunteering during Vacation Bible School. She was a lover of nature, all animals, and curling up on her back porch with a good book, listening to her birds and watching her deer. She loved spending time at the beach, in the mountains of North Carolina and even on the golf course. Katie spent 25 years in the mortgage industry, but she was blessed also to be able to stay home with her girls during their early childhood years, where the memories they made were endless. Katie was known for her constant, contagious smile and being a selfless true friend to everyone. She was passionate in sharing her "random acts of kindness" and her God sightings. In her honor, continue to share random acts of kindness in your everyday life. As her final act of giving, Katie donated her kidneys so that two others have a new chance for life. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Kaple, and other beloved extended family members. She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughters, Anna and Claire; brother, Dan; mother, Marion; sister-in-law, Jackie Sorrels (Clark). A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Monday, October 3, at 10 am.
