Mr. Michael B. Dolan Jr.

Michael Bernard Dolan Jr. died peacefully on March 20th (four days short of his 87th birthday) with family members at his side. He was born March 24, 1931 in Tuscaloosa, AL to Gwendolyn (Gee-Gee) and Michael Sr. (Granddaddy). He was preceded in death by his wife Sue and by the mother of his four children – Carol Kellogg Steckler. He attended St. Clara’s Academy in Yazoo City, MS where he lived his youth. He then attended and graduated class Valedictorian at St. Stanislaus High School in Bay St Louis, MS and then in college was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by his classmates at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. Through NROTC he entered the Navy and ascended as an aviator to Commander flying P2V's while serving his country faithfully over 20 years. He was a highly regarded and successful businessman when not serving actively or in the reserves with the Navy. He was a lifetime Catholic and model Christian who lived his life with a steadfast love for the Lord; he was obedient to the Commandments and his Catholic faith to his very last breath. He extended that love unconditionally to his family and all he met. He was loved by all those fortunate to know him as a charter resident at St. George Village where he served as resident leader for 12 years. He was known for his witty humor as well as wise sayings like "KYPS" (Keep Your Priorities Straight) and "There is a God and I am not He" and “Let Go, Let God”. He was a cheerleader and known as the "loudest fan in the stadium" to all of his children and encouraged them in all they chose to pursue. His interests included his love of tennis and golf. He was passionate about his time as a pilot, bible study, community service and leadership. He studied scripture daily and most everyday attended Mass and said the Rosary. Surely as Dad died and rose to Heaven, God said, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Michael is survived by his devoted family: His six children – Karyn Dolan, Michael Dolan (Ginny), Kevin Dolan (Karla), Sherry Sawicki (Tod), Chuck Crook (Roseann) and Sheila Crook-Lockwood(Eric); His seventeen grandchildren – Colleen Mulholland Sanjurjo (Gaby), Casey Anne Moore (Geoff), Kourtney Dolan Buniak (AJ), Mackenzie Sawicki, Keegan Dolan, Morgan Sawicki, Clint Dolan, Connor Dolan, Macnair Sawicki, Christy Crook, Bill Crook, Lauren Crook, Josiah Mulvihill, Michael Mulvihill, Renee Hamm (Joe), Zach Mulvihill (Liz), Marshall Creech; His five great-grandchildren - Hensley Moore, Rebecca Moore, Parker Buniak, Cillian Sanjurjo, Emarosa Hamm. A Catholic mass will be held at St Peter Chanel Catholic Church(http://stpeterchanel.org) at 2:00pm Friday, March 23 followed by a military salute ceremony. A graveside service will be held later that afternoon at the Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery in Marble Hill, GA where he will be buried next to his beloved wife Sue.
