Richard William Cramer

Richard William Cramer died from esophageal cancer at home on April 7, 2013 with his wife at his side. Born July 15, 1941 in Homer, New York, as a kid he peddled the Cortland Standard and Syracuse Post Standard newspapers. Dick graduated from the University of Rochester where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Drafted into the U.S. Army, Richard taught photography during his two-year stint. In 2003 he retired from Eastman Kodak after 40 years, during which he worked in six continents. For six years he and his family lived in Dubai UAE while he was a Kodak manager. Upon retirement he began to do taxes as a volunteer with the AARP foundation Tax Aide program. Beginning in 2006 he was the State of Georgia coordinator for the program. He enjoyed working with his volunteer district coordinators, his immediate volunteer staff and over 800 volunteers in the state of Georgia. In March 2013 he received AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Fellow award for his leadership and vision. Otherwise known as ‘Rich’ and ‘Richie’, he was the son of the late Ray and Lillian Clark Cramer (Pratt , Berry). Richard felt strongly that a family, not the government, should care for family. His mother Lillian Berry lived with him in Roswell until her December 2012 death from old age. His first marriage to Mary Jane Vincent ended in divorce. In 1975, he married Cora Schofield Cramer. Richard enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves, traveling, and reading; among his favorite ‘reads’ were full volumes of de Tocqueville and Herodotus. Along with his loving wife Cora, he is survived by sons William, John (Robin), James (Gayle), daughter Emily, and granddaughters Savannah, Baker, Mackenzie and Shelby, sister Judith Palmer (Richard), nieces and nephews, and cousins. Richard will be missed by all. Calling hours at North Side Chapel in Roswell, Georgia will be from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 with service following. Committal will be in the Homer, New York Glenwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to AARP Foundation Tax Aide-Program, 601 E Street, Washington, D.C ., 20049. The family wishes to thank friends, tax volunteers, Kodak coworkers, DKE brothers, and neighbors who rallied around Dick and the family in his final transition.
