Mr. Robert (Bob) Nicholas Votta

ALPHARETTAN WAS “MR AMERICAN LEGION” TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM. Robert N. Votta of Alpharetta passed away peacefully on Sunday July 27th, at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, Georgia. Mr. Votta was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1946. He was the son of Carmen and Josephine Votta. Bob was a devoted son, husband, brother, and uncle. He leaves Mary, his loving wife of 40 years to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his brother David (Joyce), Nephew David Votta, Jr., nieces Lynne Moore and Lisa Lombardozzi and Cousin (like a Sister) Carmela Bobick (Steven). Mr. Votta was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War Era with honor and distinction from 1967 to 1971. Robert Votta, who has called Alpharetta home for 24 years, retired after many years as a loyal and valued employee of the General Electric Company. Bob was a passionate sports fan and a man who never met a stranger, and had an uncanny ability to remember names; even of individuals he only met one time. Bob was also an avid golfer and following his retirement from GE, worked at the Windermere Golf Club in Cumming. During his tenure there, Bob made hundreds of friends among both members and employees He is best known in the Alpharetta, Georgia community as “Mr. American Legion” for his tireless efforts on behalf of the 825 wartime members of Alpharetta American Legion Post 201 where he was entrusted with numerous leadership positions. Among them, two terms as Post Commander, Senior vice Commander, General Chairman of the Annual Old Soldiers Parade, Chairman of the High School Oratorical Contest and Chairman of the high School Scholarship Program and Chairman of the Post Executive Committee. The 2014 Old Soldiers Day Parade, the largest in the event’s 62-year history, was dedicated to his memory. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 10:00 AM at Northside Funeral Home, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the same location at 11:00 AM followed by a reception at American Legion Post 201, located at 201 Wills Road, Alpharetta, Georgia, 30009. In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
