Robert John "Bear" Mentus, II

“Bear” Robert John Mentus, II was born in Passaic, New Jersey on June 15, 1971 to Robert Mentus and Cecile (Mastroeni) Spanburgh. He grew up in Northern New Jersey and attended Catholic schools where he played football in High School and was given the nickname “BEAR“ by his friends. His family moved to Roswell, GA in the 1990’s and Robert attended truck driving school to become a Commercial Truck Driver. In 1999, Robert joined the North Fulton Jaycees where he went on to become local president. He led his chapter to a top ten finish in the Georgia Jaycees that year and was awarded the T. Malone Sharp Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievements and Leadership. He was very proud of this award, as only 3 were given in Georgia that year. He was the 5th N Fulton President to receive the award! In 2001, Robert was awarded with lifetime membership in the Georgia Jaycees by being inducted in to the Ga Jaycees’ Rebel Corps. This is an elite group of Jaycees and Robert was honored to be among them. In 2002, Robert joined Christ Fellowship Church in Dawsonville, GA and was saved by the spirit of Jesus Christ in 2003. Robert married Stacia “Stacy” Jennifer Cagle of Marietta, GA on October 12, 2003 at Christ Fellowship Church. After a honeymoon in Las Vegas, they resided in Dawsonville until 2005 when they moved to Roswell. Robert vacationed each year with his family on Jekyll Island, GA where Robert loved to fish off of the Jekyll Pier. He would catch sharks and other fish for the sport and release them back to the ocean. Robert proposed to Stacy on Jekyll Island and the couple purchased an engraved brick for the sidewalk at the GA Sea Turtle Center there. Robert loved the natural setting and the seclusion of Jekyll Island. On July 24, 2006, the couple had a son, Robert John Mentus, III - “Robbie” Robert was so excited to be Daddy! He loved to play with Robbie and the feeling was mutual! Robert and Robbie enjoyed NASCAR racing together and Monday night wrestling on TV. Robert was an avid sports memorabilia collector and he bought and sold at Trade Shows and E-bay. He enjoyed music and scary movies as he volunteered for 8 years in the North Fulton Jaycees House on Horror Hill haunted house. Robert is survived by his wife and son, his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents, the Ligus’s of Las Vegas, NV and the Mastroeni’s of Garfield, NJ. The family will receive guests at the Northside chapel on Crabapple Road in Roswell on Thursday, March 19 from 5:30pm-8:30pm. The funeral services will be held at that location on Friday, March 20 at 2pm. Robert’s body will be cremated and his ashes placed into the care of his wife. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any Wachovia bank to the “North Fulton Jaycees in care of the Mentus Family Assistance Fund”. This fund is for 2 year old Robbie’s education.
