Robert Scott Rabun

Robert Scott Rabun, 49, was a native Atlantan and proud of it. He grew up in Sandy Springs, attending Riverwood High School and St. John Methodist Church. Scott was an avid sportsman; he loved fishing, hunting dove with his father and brothers, and all team and individual games. He was one of the first to race down the Chattahoochee, and first ran in the Peachtree Road Race in 1976. Scott also loved music; he instilled these talents and passions in his daughter Alyssa, and would have loved to do the same for son Ryan. He began his college career at Furman University, in South Carolina, and returned home to receive his BA in Business from Georgia State University. During college, Scott worked hard while he was in school. He was Asst. Food and Beverage manager at the downtown Atlanta Hilton. He trained as a chef under the direction of Chef Paul of Pano & Paul’s restaurant. Scott and Virginia Ebner were married in Atlanta in 1981. Scott was with Agfa-Gevaert, rising rapidly to the top. They moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. Scott was drawn to the water all his life and preferred to live as close as possible to a beach. After a few years the apple of his eye, the beautiful, intelligent, and oh so talented, Alyssa Rene Rabun arrived. Scott left Agfa, and went into the medical arena. This necessitated a move to Chapel Hill, NC. Scott and Virginia, though no longer together, moved separately to the same area to facilitate the caring and shared custody of their daughter. Scott was a member of Christ Church in Southern Village. In 2001 Scott adopted a son, Ryan Raymond Rabun, from the Ukraine. Scott died February 17, 2006. He is survived by his daughter Alyssa Rene Rabun, of Winter Park, Fla., Oviedo, Spain, and Excelsior, Michigan, his son, Ryan Raymond Rabun, of Pittsboro, NC. Also, surviving are his parents L. Walton Rabun, Jr. and Barbara Carpenter Rabun of Alpharetta, GA., his siblings, Jeanne Rabun, Alpharetta, GA., Lee W. Rabun, III, Alpharetta, GA., Barbara Rabun, Portland, Ore., Romy Rabun, Atlanta, GA., and Clay S. Rabun, San Francisco and LA, CA. He left a nephew, Robert Declan Rabun, two nieces, Natalie Marie Rabun and Emily Amanda Rabun. There are many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He will be in our hearts everyday and will be greatly missed.
